The bank has issued an advertisement for the 2000 job vacancies under the SBI PO Recruitment scheme. SBI PO Selection Process 2023-24

The stages of selection of SBI PO are:

The first step of the bank is to shorten the applicants; to minimize the candidate bank will conduct the preliminary examination of all the applicants and only the shortlisted candidates can make further in the recruitment process.

Information about the Preliminary Examination

The prelims exam is the first step of the SBI PO process of selection. This test is based on the general knowledge to test the basic foundation of the candidates. It’s not that much difficult but due to increasing the number of applicants the bank’s going to make it little difficult to qualify the test.

SBI PO Preliminary Examination Process

The Prelims Exam of SBI PO will contain 100 questions carrying 100 marks and the time duration is 1 hour.
The Questions are divided into 3 Sections

Reasoning – Reasoning asked in SBI PO Exam is purely based on logic and is not just a mathematical skill where you learn various formulas and the work is done. The only strategy here is to practice all the type of questions as many times as you can. Some of the important topics for the exam are:

Blood Relations, Syllogism, Statement and Conclusions, Missing Character, Directions, Seating Arrangements, Ranking, Data sufficiency, Puzzles, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Coding-Decoding, Analogy, Classification.

Quantitative Aptitude – The section of quantitative aptitude is all based on the numeric and mathematics calculation. The applicants must only attempt those questions which are easy first. Some of the important topics for the exam are:

Number Systems, Number Series, Simple Interest & Compound Interest, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Profit & Loss, Percentage, Average, Ratio and Proportion, Data Interpretation, Probability.

English – This section is considered as toughest. The aspirants must have good English grammar knowledge to clear this part. The candidates should read magazines and newspapers to get good command over the English language. Some of the important topics for the exam are:

Reading Comprehension. Cloze Test, Spotting the Error, Para jumbles, Idioms & Phrases, Synonyms & Antonyms.


  1. The preliminary examination is going to be conducted by the bank online and applicants had to submit answer sheet online only.
  2. The examination going to have total 100 questions and out of which at least 30 questions must be right to qualify the test.
  3. The test contains all objective type questions. The four options for each question will be given and candidates had to select one right option according to his or her knowledge.
  4. The negative marking is followed while checking the answers. In which one mark is given for each right answer and for one wrong answer 1/4 marks will be deducted. So the aspirants are advised to only adept those questions which are clear to him, otherwise, don’t write that questions answer.
  5. The candidates have to qualify in each section separately to secure position in the next step of the SBI PO recruitment process.
  6. After the prelims, it’s expected that around 50% of the applicants got eliminated from the process and only half will enter the next step.

SBI PO Main Examination Process

The main examination is conducted in two parts and the information regarding both are as follows:
Objective test

  1. SBI PO main examination’s objective test consists of 200 marks and aspirants have to answer at least half of the questions to qualify the test.
  2. The test going to be conducted online. The applicants have to type answer if questions on the computer, so they should practice typing for fast results.
  3. The total time allowed to complete the objective test is 3 hours. After the completion, if 3 hours window will automatically shutdowns and the Descriptive test will appear on the computer screen.
  4. The time is allowed to complete each section of the test.
  5. The aspirants have to score passing marks in each section of the objective test to get evaluated by the bank.
  6. The negative marking is followed while checking the answers. In which one mark is given for each right answer and for one wrong answer 1/4 marks will be deducted. So the aspirants are advised to only adept those questions which are clear to him, otherwise, don’t write that questions answer.

SBI PO Descriptive Test Process

  1. The test is going to exactly after the completion of the objective test.
  2. The test is going to be held online and applicants have to type answers on the computer.
  3. The test consists of total 50 marks and time allowed to complete the test is 30 minutes. Not a single extra second is allowed for the test.
  4. The test is based on the English language to test the Basic English skills of the candidates.
  5. Candidate required qualifying this test to get selected by the bank.
  6. The descriptive test marks will only be evaluated after the marks evaluation of the objective test. If the candidate fails in the objective test then the marks of the descriptive test won’t be checked by the authorities.


Banking Awareness or Financial Awareness or Economic Awareness section of SBI PO Exam will contain Questions based on Banking related issues and topics. You just need to keep yourself updated about current happenings and also bit knowledge of static GK that includes:

  • Current Affairs of last 6 months.
  • Topics related to finance and economics.
  • History of Banking.
  • Banking Terms.
  • Fiscal & Monetary Policies.

SBI PO Group Exercise and Interview

One of the final steps of the SBI PO selection process is group exercise and interview. The candidates, who qualify the objective and descriptive test, they are called for the next step. In the group exercise, bank board asks questions from the group of applicants together.

The motive behind the group exercise is to test the convincing power of the person. How a person makes him or her stand out among the group of people and how the candidate can put their few points in front of others.

This whole exercise is based on testing the personal skills of applicants as anyone passes in the test, but face to face has a different meaning in it.

After the group exercise, face to face interview with one candidate at a time is held. The bank officers will ask a different type of questions from the candidate. The candidate has to out his point of view in front of the jury without any confusion and with a clear objective to support their answer.


The final selection of the candidate is made from the marks of the main exam both in the objective test and descriptive test. The total out of 250 marks of the aspirant of mains is reduced to 75%. The marks aspirant got in the SBI PO group exercise and interview are ranked from 50 marks. The other 25% is based on the interview.

The total of the process two and three are used to access final marks of candidates. The marks of the prelims won’t count in the final mark sheet.
